STAFF LIST – ADMINISTRATION
|Kendra Hossfeld, Principal
I am a life-long learner with a background in curriculum and design, differentiated instruction, school management and educational leadership. I received my bachelor’s degree in biology and completed my master’s degree in special education with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction from the University of Colorado. As a co-founder of North Star Academy I have served as the school’s Curriculum Director, Dean of Middle School, and Assistant Principal. I am honored to be the current Principal. I spend my free time exploring the outdoors with my husband and two boys.
|Mary Edwards, Assistant Principal
NSA has been a home away from home for me, and there is nowhere else I’d rather be. I believe in what we do at North Star Academy to educate our children and look forward to our students’ growth each year. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Montana State University-Billings, a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Penn State, and a Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership from Kaplan University. I love to learn and my goal has always been to pass my love of learning onto my students. I look forward to working with our students each year to help them learn and grow to their fullest potential!
|Kyle Roberts, Assistant Principal
I was born and raised in Colorado. I have a masters in administration from the University of Denver. I worked for Aurora Public Schools before coming to North Star Academy in 2011 to teach middle school math. This summer I accepted the position of Assistant Principal. My wife, Tiffany, teaches A.M. kindergarten. We have four children; two attending NSA this year and the other two a few short years behind. I am very excited for the new adventures this year will bring working with such a wonderful staff and student body.
|Angie Cape, Business Director
I have been North Star Academy’s Business Director since its inception in 2006. As the office staff explains to everyone, if it has a dollar sign in front of it, it is my responsibility. Prior to coming to NSA, I was employed in similar positions with the Douglas County School District and another charter school in Parker. My experience and negotiating skills have been honed over a twenty year career working in the accounting arena. I am a Colorado native, married and have two children. In my spare time, I love to bike, golf and enjoy my very active family.
|Dawn D’Amato, Volunteer Coordinator
I am originally from Western, NY. After graduating from the University of Buffalo with a bachelors in business with a minor in Psychology I moved to the Southeast and spent the next 16 years in the healthcare billing industry. We have been part of North Star Academy since its inception in 2006. My husband and I have been married for 20 years and have four beautiful children, a rescued Lab, and a hamster! I enjoy reading, exercising, the ocean, and reality TV.
|Tina Gamard, Technology Consultant|
|Dee Dee Griffin
|Carla Smith, Administrative Assistant
I have been with North Star Academy since 2010 and have worked in DCSD since 2000. I earned my degree in accounting and have been happily married for 25 years. We have a beautiful daughter who graduated from UNC, a beautiful step-daughter and two wonderful granddaughters. I also have two four-legged, furry kids; a couple of Westies. I love spending time with my family and friends, playing games, playing cards, reading and watching movies.
|Michelle Snyder, Registrar
I am starting my third year here at North Star Academy and my tenth year working in the school system. I am a Colorado native, married for over 20 years with 3 high school aged children – a son and boy/girl twins. We have two rescued Lab mix dogs that add lots of mud, drool, hair, and love to our very active home. We spend most weekends at lacrosse, soccer or volleyball games and tournaments. When we are not at our various sporting events, we like to camp and travel in our RV, watch movies, and play board games.
|Jenny Mowery, Office Assistant|
|Beth Sandstrom, Clinic Aide
I was born and raised in a small suburb of Cincinnati Ohio! I attended the University of Cincinnati and the Christ Hospital School of Nursing where I received my degree as a Registered Nurse. After a year in Oncology I made a big change, took a leap of faith and moved solo to Colorado Springs in 2001 to begin my career in the field of Cardiac Critical Care nursing and never looked back! Colorado became my home where I met and married my husband and where we are raising our 3 very active boys. I was granted the amazing privilege to become a stay at home mom and wife after the littlest little was born for 6 amazing years but now that he is in 1st grade I am overjoyed to be giving back as a “nurse”, once again! This will be our boys second year at NSA while this will be my first as clinic aid! I’m so blessed to have this amazing opportunity and will continue to consider it such every day!!
|Mary Schmitt, District Nurse
I was born and raised near a small rural town in Wyoming (population 30) . I attended the University of Wyoming where I received my Bachelors Degree in Nursing. I moved to Colorado to begin my career in pediatric nursing at Children’s Hospital, Denver. I worked in ICU for all of my hospital nursing career, which was a total of 15 years. I left the hospital to devote more time to raising my 4 children. I began working as a Nurse Consultant for Douglas County School District when my youngest was in school full time. I was fortunate enough, after working for DCSD for a few years, to be assigned to work with North Star Academy. This was an exciting opportunity for me because my own 4 children have attended NSA since it opened in 2006. As a Nurse consultant I am responsible for overseeing the Health Rooms and health needs of the students in the schools that I cover. On average I cover 4 schools each school year.
