Well the new school year if off to a great start! The building is full of life again and children are already busy learning.
We’d like to say “Thank you” for a very smooth drop-off this morning. It will be really nice to have the portable building gone and begin the process of putting turf in it’s place to increase the playground area for our students. For the first time in 99 years, a total solar eclipse will be completely visible across the US on Monday, August 21st. A total solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the earth and sun and the diameter of the moon is larger than the sun’s, completely blocking all direct sunlight resulting in total darkness. NSA has purchased certified and approved solar Eclipse glasses for all students to view the Eclipse on Monday. Students will not be allowed outside during the time of the Eclipse without them.
Student Academic Advisory Committee (SAAC) would like to invite all interested parents and guardians to attend its monthly meetings. This year, we will be discussing different topics at each meeting. The first meeting will examine Charter 101. These meetings are held on the second Monday of each month from 8:30 am – 10:30 am in the NSA library. The first meeting is scheduled for August 21st. All are welcome to attend! You may also contact SAAC at SAAC@nstaracademy.org We thank you for your continued support and participation in our school!
Please join us for Curriculum Night on Thursday, August 24th beginning at 6:00 pm. This is a parent only night.
Mrs. Hossfeld, the Board of Directors, SAAC and the Foundation will be facilitating a welcome presentation from 6:00 – 6:30 pm and from 6:30 – 7:00 pm in the gym.
There will be three breakout sessions to meet with teachers from 6:00 – 6:30, 6:30 – 7:00, and 7:00 – 7:30 pm. You may choose which time you would like to attend a presentation and to meet with teachers.

Lunch Program – North Star Academy
If you have not setup your students account to purchase lunch at school, you may do so by going to My School Bucks at www.myschoolbucks.com
The process is quick and simple, and will require about 5 minutes of your time. If you just need to add a student to an existing account you will need to enter your child’s birth date or student ID number.
To view the menu: Go to http://dcsd.nutrislice.com/ Then click on the Lunch Menu tab and select the link that includes North Star; it will take you directly to the August calendar. Look for new entree options that are available this year. Also, based on your feedback on the SAAC survey, snack options will be offered on Mondays and Fridays only!

After school music will refresh the brains and bodies of young learners. We will move to music, sing, and play with famous songs that will be appreciated and internalized for growth of brains and bodies. This class is conducted by Sandy Stoller, NSA Music Teacher.

If your student(s) ride their bikes / scooters to school, please remind them that bikes / scooters CANNOT be driven on school property (Keystone & Centre Drive up). Students MUST get off their bikes and walk them up to the building. We’ve had some incidents and near misses between bikes and pedestrians recently and we want to make sure everyone stays safe.

Flag Football for 1st – 8th grade.
It’s that time of year again! We’re getting ready for our Fall Season of Under the Lights Flag Football, powered by Under Armour!
The league will start on Sept 16th and run through Oct 21st. The league has been a huge success and has grown significantly over the past year. The kids absolutely love playing Under the Lights at Lutheran HS. We are trying to build on the successful first year with an even stronger second year, and sincerely appreciate your efforts in helping encourage kids to stay active and social through sports.
